Thank You for Making Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day 2025 a Success!
We are deeply grateful to our incredible sponsors Quiddity, Chemours, & Houston Community College, and dedicated volunteers who helped bring this year’s event to life. Your support and hard work made it possible to inspire and engage future engineers through hands-on experiences.
Check out photos from our four interactive activities:
- Chemical Engineering – Colorful Chemistry in Action: Participants explored the fascinating world of acids and bases using red cabbage as a natural pH indicator. They learned about anthocyanin, the pigment that changes color depending on acidity. With three mystery solutions in front of them, the girls tested each one and discovered whether it was an acid, neutral, or base—all through hands-on experimentation and vibrant color changes.
- Robotics – Build, Code, and Compete: Teamwork took center stage as participants completed the assembly of a robot and programmed it to perform different tasks. From making the robot move to using sensors to navigate a path, the activity combined problem-solving, coding, and creativity. Watching the robots come to life was a highlight for many!
- Civil Engineering – Towers of Strength: In this challenge, teams designed and built structures featuring multiple cantilevers. With limited materials and time, they had to balance creativity with engineering principles. The competition heated up as prizes were awarded for the tallest tower and the widest cantilevers that could sustain weight—showcasing both ingenuity and resilience under pressure.
- Keynote Speaker – Maria Angela Capello: Maria Angela shared her journey to becoming an engineer, the challenges she overcame, and how her career took her across many countries—highlighting the exciting role of sustainability in shaping the future.
Looking ahead, we’re already planning for next year! If you’d like to stay informed and be part of the journey, sign up using our Interest Form below.
Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected engineering community. Thank you again for being part of this year’s success—we couldn’t have done it without you!
2026 Event Information
Join SWE-Houston Area for our annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IAGTE), designed to inspire young women in grades 6-10 to explore exciting opportunities in engineering. This free, hands-on event offers an engaging introduction to the world of engineering through interactive activities and demonstrations.
2026 Date To Be Determined
Registration Details:
- Registration is first-come, first-served with a waitlist available once capacity is reached
- For group registration assistance please reach out to iagte@houstonswe.org
- This is a drop-off event for students – parents are asked to drop off their students and return for pickup.
- Parents and educators interested in staying are welcome to sign up for our separate Parent Educator Program (PEP) session
- We ask that all parents and educators interested in the PEP session to register separately from their students so we can get an accurate head count
- For last-minute open spots or group registration assistance, contact iagte@houstonswe.org
For Parents/Guardians and Educators:
If you would like to register for our Parent/Educator program, please register separately from your child/student. For additional inquiries or assistance for educators or groups, please email us at iagte@houstonswe.org.
Let’s get designing and engineering!
Attention Parents and Educators!
Be sure to sign up for the Parent/Educator Program (PEP) during registration! This program is designed for parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, administrators, and leaders who want to engage with and support young girls in STEM. The PEP will highlight innovative educational strategies to teach girls about STEM and keep them engaged.
Program Elements:
- Learn about engineering careers, scholarships, college admissions, and valuable resources.
- Network with SWE members and connect with other parents and educators.
- Participate in a panel discussion with select SWE members and outreach experts.
- Enjoy a fun engineering activity specifically designed for parents and educators to learn and replicate.
Join us for this enriching experience! Sign up using the registration link below to discover how you can help your daughter or student explore the creative and rewarding aspects of STEM.
